Andrew and I have been living and working on our smallholding in Pencaitland, East Lothian for the last 11 years. We started out doing livery but as Andrew had always wanted to farm, it wasn’t long before we found ourselves adding some pigs and a flock of rare breed sheep to the mix.
And the dogs? Well we’ve so much space that over time, friends started asking us to look after their dogs. A day here, a day there. It came pretty naturally to us. When he was younger Andrew worked in kennels of up to 100 dogs, where he was responsible for exercising and cleaning them. I grew up in Zimbabwe and we always had dogs - a grand total of 10 in our home at one point! So we have always seen dogs as a natural extension of our family.
As a family-run business we know dogs aren't just animals but important members of their owner’s family and that’s how we treat them!
Looking after people’s dogs worked really well. We loved it, the dogs were happy and our friends were over the moon that they weren’t having to leave their beloved dogs alone in the house all day. And the idea for Boggs Dogs was born!
We have three very sociable dogs (a French Pointer, an English Pointer and an American Bulldog) as well as three children. The whole family takes a very active role in looking after all the animals.
Meet our team
We all love dogs here. Each one of us grew up with dogs and now we all have one or two (or three or four!) of our own. That’s what makes Boggs Dogs such a great place for dogs. When we come to work here we’re not just doing a job. We’re doing something we really believe in. You can see from the fun we have with them, the kindness we show them and the care we give them that we always have their best interests at heart. That’s why we’re here.
We got our first dog, Sas, for my husband’s 30th birthday, and that’s where my obsession with dogs began! We now have three border collies and a working cocker spaniel. I love working breeds and a dog that is a challenge to train, hence working at Boggs Dogs gives me satisfaction as we look after all kinds of wonderful and fun temperaments. When I’m not with dogs I spend every spare minute throwing myself down steep trails on a mountain bike!
I’ve always had a passion for animals and wildlife. We had dogs when I was growing up and now my partner and I have four dogs. Our newest, Nico, is elderly, partially sighted and only speaks Spanish (though his Scottish is coming along nicely!). I believe every dog deserves a loving home and at Boggs Dogs we provide a safe caring environment for them. We’re a home away from home for your dog and we honestly look after them as if they were our own.
I grew up with German Shepherds and Labradors back home in Poland. I got my own dog, a German Shepherd cross, Thiago, five years ago and when I moved to Scotland last year, I arranged for him to join me of course! He suffers from separation anxiety so I understand dogs who show similar behaviour. We have seen dogs progress from severe separation anxiety into fully-fledged confident dogs at Boggs Dogs. It's so rewarding knowing we have helped in their journey to confidence.
I love all dog breeds but the one that steals my heart is the Labrador. I have two of them, Molly, a black lab who’s 13 and Flynn a fox red who’s 9. My main hobby is walking trials and I’ll compete with Flynn until his retirement this year. I’m now looking to add a puppy to our family – a Labrador of course! At Boggs Dogs every dog is treated as an individual and dogs and staff quickly become part of the Boggs family.
